Frequently asked questions
Clear answers about operation, limitations, training, charging and support.
Does SmartCane replace a traditional white cane?
No. The cane and established mobility techniques remain primary. Sensors provide supplementary alerts only.
Will it detect every obstacle, curb or step?
No sensor system can guarantee detection in every environment. Object material, angle, distance, lighting, weather and movement may affect performance.
Is SmartCane a medical device?
No. It is an assistive awareness product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.
Do I need training?
Users should learn feedback patterns in a controlled environment and consult a qualified orientation and mobility professional when appropriate.
Does it work if the battery is empty?
The physical cane is intended to remain usable, but electronic alerts will be unavailable. Always verify mechanical condition and use ordinary cane technique.
Can it contact emergency services?
Planned connected features may help share location through a phone, but connectivity is not guaranteed and does not replace calling emergency services.
When will it ship?
